This chapter provides you with an overview of the insurance industry, how it operates and how it is regulated. You will learn the difference between stock companies, mutual companies and fraternal societies. In addition, the federal government along with all states has enacted various laws and regulations that affect the insurance industry. All agents, brokers and companies are bound by these laws. You will become familiar with these laws and the overall affect it has on marketing, sales and advertising.
